[NMLUG] Turn those old PCs into a render farm!
Oh, lol. Pretty much any institute of higher ed. I was at Luna Community
College, a very small school, but still had 300+ machines around. They're
not a cluster, but they're all on a network and can be made into a render
farm pretty easily. That's why I chose python and blender, because it'll
run on both Linux and Windows machines. Of course I never had anything fun
to render, as I'm not a 3D artist, but it was still fun getting the scripts
to work.
Net booting them as fat clients w/ a shared filesystem would also work as
well, as you wouldn't have to install python and blender on each one, but
that would still require going to each computer to set it up to boot off the
network first.
