Switchgrass - that is, cellulosic ethanol - is the most promising
option in terms of energy per acre here. But there's some technology
development required to make the production One of the keys to the
Brazilian example is that they're making fuel out of something that
would otherwise be a waste product, on top of an existing agricultural
production system. So you don't have to convert acreage out of food
production to make fuel.
