[NMLUG] Global Linux group?

These are great groups, but most of the Linux/Unix/BSD groups I've
found seem geographically specific, which seems unnecessary for
mailing lists and cyber communication.

Is there a global Linux group/mailing list that consists of tens of
thousands of users? That would seem more efficient.

I know about newsgroups, but it seems that no one really uses those anymore.
