Tim, I call that a network based OPX (Off Premise eXtension). Qwest could
set up a normal OPX, which will cost about $90/month per extension. I do a
network based OPX with a couple of Multitech VoIP boxes. The old version
that I have (200), only supports a proprietary protocol and H.323. The new
ones support SIP. The 2-port box is a Multi-VoIP 210, I think. This isn't
exactly a Open Source solution, but it is rock solid and stands by itself
(no Windows box to be a directory server). It also isn't cheap or
inexpensive. I think it runs $1000-$1200 per box for 2 ports. I'm pretty
sure there are less expensive solutions, an asterisk server comes to mind
and maybe a couple of Linksys/Vonage boxes (there are rumors that you can
use the analog port to connect to things beside Vonage).
