[NMLUG] Simulating a USB device for VMware?

I was wondering if it is possible to simulate a USB device on a Linux
host so that it is available for a Windows machine running in VMware.
I have some downloaded DRM music that I would like to burn to CD. VMware
does not make CD-Rs available to the OS running on it (at least, not to
Windows). I realized a few days ago that Windows might be able to write
to a USB-connected CD-R. When I looked in town yesterday, the cheapest
unit was $100.00, and I'm just not inspired to toss $100.00 at something
that I will rarely use.
Any thoughts on that?
Thanks,
j
