Seems unlikely. I think Ubuntu amd64 is based on of Debian amd64 which
puts 64-bit libraries in /lib and /usr/lib.

If it's EM64T, it should -- Debian does.

I've had good success with SUSE amd64 over the past year.
32-bit libs go in /lib and 64-bit libs go in /lib64. So, it's easy
to compile and run 32-bit and 64-bit in the same root system.
