Also, the OP looks like he installed firefox by downloading it, instead
of using apt-get
Raymond: from a terminal, su to root, and run apt-get install
mozilla-firefox - this will put it in your internet menu and register it
as a system browser. Then, optionally (still as root),
update-alternatives x-www-browser and pick mozilla-firefox from the list
