[NMLUG] Video Card Recommendations

  • Subject: [NMLUG] Video Card Recommendations

I'm building a new LINUX workstation.
I have a dual 1GHz motherboard, intended for servers.

Odd thing is that it does NOT have an AGP slot...
just PCI.

Can anybody recommend a decent but cheap PCI video
card (assuming they even exist these days)?
I don't care much about 3d, but 2d accell is nice.
I would like to be able to support 1600x1200 resolution
at a decent (>75Hz) rate. 1900x(whatever is standard... 1400-1600?)
would be nice. (My monitor WILL handle that)
I was hoping that a vanilla video card in the $50 neighborhood
might exist.

The only PCI video card I have is ATI Mach-64.
It barely has enough memory for 1280x1024 as I recall.
