There's a Knoppix Mythtv installer that totally rocks. I put one
together a few weeks ago, and have been playing with it, quite a bit.
Primarily, we have been playing with MythGame and MythMusic - as I
haven't had much time to bother with the tv capture portion of it, yet.
It plays DVD OK, as long as they aren't encrypted (so, not at all,
unless they're my own "backup" DVDs made with dvdbackup and DVDShrink) -
probably because I'm using a Pentium 3 450. Surprisingly, it did the
DVD ripping pretty well!
If you have any backup ROMS, or decide to download some from the Public
Domain, a couple of cheap USB Gamepads, and you have a console arcade
machine.
I like MythMusic's import utility, but just for that extra bit of
utility (we all own headphones in my house) I threw netjuke on the same
machine as the Myth box and we now have a streaming, searchable,
networked database of our music backups that we can add to as easily as
throwing in an Audio CD and hitting the "Import CD" button.
All in all, it's the best use for a PentiumIII 450mhz and a Voodoo3 3000
I could have come up with.
And I haven't even started playing with the TV functions yet!
