[NMLUG] 2.6 kernel sound modules

sorry to reply to myself... but something odd happened.
I did a make clean; make modules_install, and
modprobe ice1712 seemed to work.
I was trying to use the ALSA driver distro, had problems,
then just went back to my kernel... something got odd.

I do have some odd behavior to report.
The card seems to work fine for apps like xmms.
However, it breaks up on a RealAudio 10 internet
radio feed. This seems strange, since the buffer
doesn't get below 80%. It just doesn't seem to
be consuming the data in a smooth real-time fashion.
It just hung when I reniced realplay.bin up to -18,
or even -1.

This is most troubling, since this is a new (to me)
dual 1GHz machine with SMP kernel and 1.2G RAM.
Internet radio should be easy for an SMP box, no?!??
