[NMLUG] grub help
looks like I got it.
I think the main problem was that I did not have
enough of the IDE drivers compiled into the kernel.
I mode some of these monolothic instead of modules
(many things about generic IDE and the Intel chipset)
and it boots now.
I also removed devfs support. I dunno if that mattered,
but they refer to it as "obsolete", so I removed it.
If you want to avoid an initrd, it looks like you
need to make sure you have all of your low-level
interface drivers compiled in (IDE/SCSI)
AND your root filesystem compiled in (EXT2/3 for me)
I had some of the IDE stuff monolithic, but apperently
not enough.
aargh. What a waste of time!
