For those old machines, you can use Smoothwall 2.0 Linux and have a
router/firewall solution almost instantly. If you want to make your own
solution, I'd recommend Slackware-Current or Mandrake 10 (but a very
scaled-down Mandrake 10). Linux From Scratch would also work, but it would
be more time. In my opinion, Smoothwall is the best solution that requires
very little work, and has excellent options and features. Slackware-Current
would make the best do-it-yourself solution.
