[lists] Re: [NMLUG] excuse me (virus)
I'm trying to wean my mom off of Win2k, two of the biggest hurdles
A)Juno is a super cheap ISP but doesnt support Linux.
B)Apparently she runs some kind of software for her business that only runs on
windows.
As for me, I run YellowDog 3.0 on my PowerBook G4. However I have recently
been having trouble with my CDROM. It thrashes a few times before the CDROM
spins up. Before anyone decides to provide helpful advice, this problem
happens regardless of the quality (scratches or no scratches) of the media.
It is definately something with YDL (However if anyone knows how I can go
about troubleshooting the driver that type of help would go a long way). I
already emailed their mailing list and there havent been any results. Oddly
this problem only started happening recently. I will upgrade to 3.0.1 to see
if that solves the problem. But I digress.
I like the flexibility I get with Linux that I cant get with OSX (however the
biggest difference in realibility is OSX has a better handle on its CDROM
drivers). I also like the fact that Linux tries to stick with Unix like
directory tree conventions. Apple throws all that out the door and wants to
do things their own way.
