[NMLUG] Port Forwarding with ActionTec DSL modem
I got the ActionTec 1520 to do port forwarding but I can't remember exactly what
I did that fixed the problem. As I recall, the problem was that the web browser
was showing the firewall level as basic, but that was not really how it was set.
That may not be what the problem was, I messed around so much, I am not sure
what all I did to it.
Here is what some of my settings are:
http://192.168.0.1/status.html shows
Firmware version: 1.60.10.0.30b-R1520SU
http://192.168.0.1/custom_setup12.html shows port 22-22 Both UDP and TCP
forwarded to <the static ip of the server>
http://192.168.0.1/custom_setup_security.html shows security level as "basic".
You might try changing it, save and restart, then changing it back to basic and
save and restart again.
Try unplugging the Actiontec modem (wait ~ 30 seconds before plugging it in
again) to do a complete system reset.
I went as far as figuring out how to get a console connetion to the modem to
examine it in detail. I suggest being very cautious if you do this. I am sure
you could really screw things up by changing things this way.
Below is a copy of what the security setting should look like:
------------------------
$ telnet 192.168.0.1
Trying 192.168.0.1...
Connected to 192.168.0.1.
Escape character is '^]'.
Login: admin (all Actiontec 1520 modems use admin as the login)
Password: ************ (same password as you set for the web interface)
Login successful
--> security status
Security enabled.
Firewall disabled.
Firewall security level: default.
Firewall session logging enabled.
Firewall blocking logging enabled.
Firewall intrusion logging disabled.
NAT enabled on ip_wan_iface
-----------------------
After connecting, you should type help. It will tell you how to enter commands
and find out what commands are available.
Good Luck! :)
