[NMLUG] Port Forwarding with ActionTec DSL modem
- Subject: [NMLUG] Port Forwarding with ActionTec DSL modem

There is a thread:
http://list.nmlug.org/nmlug/2003-November/threads.html#00016
(titled "SSH")
with some discussion about problems an individual was having with
PortForwarding port 22 through to a linux box for remote SSH access -
using an ActionTec DSL Modem/router.
I think it was also on Qwest DSL.
Well I have the EXACT same problem.
I have a RedHat Fedora Core1 server that I have SSH access to. It
works internally, but external access is a nogo.
If I try and acces it from an OSX box using openssh, I get "connection
refused" and if I try and access it from a PC running PuTTY on Windows,
I get "connection timed out".
I have tried all the suggestions in the thread - like running
tcpdump... The Actiontec is dropping everything - nothing gets through.
My firewall settings are "Basic" (which means NAT only). NAT is turned
on, and DHCP is on. My RedHat box has a static IP, and I have tried
port forwarding, DMZ, and both...
I have had my modem replaced once, and I have tried firmware versions
.71 and .69.
I get the same results regardless of if I run sshd on port 22 or 2222
or any port (and forward them).
The ActionTec simply appears to be dropping the forwards...
Any ideas?
