But nice to know, I guess.

I'd be curious to see how partimage stacks up with Ghost in this 
scenario.  It also does not copy blank space.  Does Ghost do compression 
of the image?  Partimage can use bz2 to sacrifice a bit of time at a 
good compression rate (a 4gb image ends up between 1.5 and 2.*gb 
usually.) or gz, for faster compress times at a fatter compression rate.

Aside from that, I like using plain ol` dump, so that I can extract 
individual or sets of files from the backup image without having to do 
anything weird.

But like  Peter said.... all this is pretty old by now.
