[NMLUG] Using SMP kernel with single CPU?

I have through the years run many SMP systems for Linux, with the Abit
BP6, then the VP6, and now with Rioworks SDVIC for dual P3s.
However the single CPUs have now gotten so much faster it's
questionable whether it's worth the trouble. I can vouch for Rioworks
(Japanese) mobos, but they are near impossible to find cheap. In fact,
they are near impossible to find in the US, period.
I'm talking about the economics of a personal system here; don't start
telling me about Linux clusters at LANL.
So if you love SMP, what mobo are YOU (all of you) using?
