[NMLUG] Couple of samba questions.

So, even though the WinXP is pointing to the WINS server (which appears
to be the same machine as the Samba server if wins support = yes) it
fails to register it's name with WINS.

Curious. If Samba is in fact the WINS server, is it also

local master = yes
domain master = yes
OS level = (something higher than 20, at least)

?

On the WinXP box, what is the output of 'nbtstat -n'? Do you see the
workgroup name in that list?

For the sake of expediency, add the winxp hostname and IP to your
/etc/hosts file on the samba box. Then try nmblookup again. Then try
your mount again.

Dumb question, but on the WinXP box, is the "Server" service running?
From the Windows 98 box, can you get to \\winxp\c$ while logged in as a
domain admin?
