Inkjet printers are still more economical than lasers (if you buy your
ink cartridges on eBay, anyway). I use an Epson Color Stylus 880,
which has a claimed 2880 dpi resolution. All I know is, I print my own
fun "postage stamps" and everyone thinks they are real, real offset
printing, that is.
