Gang, I just found this site:

http://www.nongnu.org/duplicity/

It says it's spun off of rdiff-backup (which I've used extensively) and
looks to have all the features I think would be necessary for what we're
discussing.

I'm going to give this a whirl on my own network, and I'll let you guys
know if this is a viable solution.
