[NMLUG] openbsd or freebsd on Sun SS5/170

This is more directed towards Don Wilde since I know he's a BSD pro. Please
feel free to respond if someone else wishes to contribute their thoughts.

I've been given a Sun SparcStation5/170 (sun4m/SS5/170) and 5 tektronix NC217
thin clients.

I was looking at installing linux on the sparc but have found that this
particular model/speed is not supported with UltraLinux. They have suggested
that I try the BSD flavors. Since I'm not familiar with BSD but ain't afraid
to learn, I've been checking out the sites but am a bit confused about the
variations.

FreeBSD isn't for me because the site states they don't support my ss5.
NetBSD and OpenBSD do but heck if I can figure out which one I need.

Quick synopsis of what I want to do with my equipment...Web Browsing/Open
Office workstation(s) for my kids and their friends to have school
homework/study parties with.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Tim Emerick
