[NMLUG] discuss: LVM

  • Subject: [NMLUG] discuss: LVM

I'm working on my new server prototype. I've used Slackware in the past,
but I'm getting to the point where I need to be able to upgrade in place.
I'm looking at Gentoo as a replacement.

I've experimented with software RAID-1 a little and it looks good.

However, with the large drives today, The question is whether I partition
my drives into several pieces. If I incorrectly guess my eventual needs, I
end up needing to repartition, which is messy cause it require me to be
on-site and take the server down.

I was looking at LVM, but because it isn't part of the base kernel
release, I'm reluctant to use it. Are there any people on this list using
it and what experiences have you had?
