Although, they change the name so often I'm tempted to start calling it
"Fickle Flame". :-)
Seriously, though, it is a great web-browsing suite that would work for almost
everything.

Sometimes, people just need IE for whatever reason (testing web pages,
specialized web apps, etc). If this is really the case, then there are a
couple of options:
1) VMWare on just the machines you need (pretty expensive, as you mentioned)
2) Keep Windows on a few machines, and use VNC or a KVM switch to access them
- this really only works if you have extra machines and Windows licenses, and
few people that need access.
3) Let a few people dual-boot, or stay with Windows if it makes more sense -
though, again, this only makes sense if there are just a few people who need
to access Windows apps.
4) Try getting it working with wine -- this will probably take a lot of work.
Frank's Corner (frankscorner.org) has lots of good info on getting apps to
work with wine; see

5) Try Crossover - it looks like they have IE 6 mostly working. It's not
free, though it looks like it's cheaper than VMWare.

6) Try Win4Lin, a slightly cheaper VMWare alternative (www.netraverse.com).
I guess none of these is a perfect solution, but hopefully one of these will
work for you. :-)
