[NMLUG] Stuck X ???

I had a small crash while doing an apt-get dist-upgrade last week. With a
little help from some friends here on the LUG's I was able to get up and
running again. However, I can't seem to get my X-server running and I'm not
sure where I should be looking.
xdm seems to be up and running. I can put in my username and password but
then no window manager comes up. I'm using Debian 3.0/unstable with KDE.
Where should I look to start my trouble shooting process?
